Description
Containing select works from eight previous collections, this work covers the expanse of Bill Manhire’s distinguished career in poetry. Obsessed with barren landscapes, Manhire writes in twisting, threatening stanzas and syntax. Manhire’s experience with hands-on work in the field lends to his poetry’s brash, potent style. His travels to the South Pole and the Norse Sagas drive his work as he continues to be an explorer of language.
“A poet of considerable subtlety and strength, a ‘dangerous writer.’” —Charles Causley, Landfall
Bill Manhire was New Zealand’s inaugural poet laureate and has won the New Zealand Book Award for Poetry four times. He is director of the writing program at Victoria University of Wellington and the International Institute of Modern Letters. He is author of the short fiction piece South Pacific. He lives in Wellington, New Zealand.
